Ride In The Safest Toyotas Ever With The Star Safety System At the NYE Automotive Group, we are serious about selling vehicles that are as safe as possible for drivers as well as all passengers who are along for the ride. Toyota is just as serious about keeping their riders safe while riding in one of their vehicles. That’s why they’ve developed their Star Safety System. The Star Safety System is a combination of six safety systems that come standard on every new Toyota, designed to help you when your vehicle comes into possible trouble. Those safety systems include Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology. Used together they make your ride safer than it‘s ever been before. Vehicle Stability Control helps prevent loss of traction by automatically reducing engine power while applying the brake to the slipping wheels. The VSC constantly analyses data coming from a sensor in the steering wheel as well as the ABS wheel-speed sensors to make sure the vehicle’s motion is properly aligned with the driver’s steering. Once the vehicle deviates from the direction the driver is steering, the VSC reduces engine power and pulses the brakes on either the left or right side to help correct the situation. Traction Control enables the vehicle’s onboard computer to tell if a drive wheel is moving faster than the wheel on the opposite side, signaling a loss of traction. Reading data from the wheel-speed sensors, TRAC can detect any slippage and automatically reduce engine power until the slipping wheel slows enough to regain traction. And if the reduction in engine power isn’t enough, the braking system kicks in to slow the wheel by pulsing the brake. The Anti-lock Brake System uses magnetic wheel-speed sensors to monitor all four wheels — when the brakes are applied, and any wheel begins to decelerate faster than the others, the ABS will recognize the loss in traction. It then rapidly pulses the brake at that wheel until it rolls at the same speed as the others. Meanwhile, the ABS maintains brake pressure on the wheels that have a better grip to prevent skidding. Electronic Brake-force Distribution is a part of the Anti-lock Brake System, helping to make up for any shifting weight while under hard braking. It reduces the brake pressure on the wheels that are carrying the least amount of the weight to help the vehicle stay in control. Brake Assist detects sudden “panic” braking to help the driver stop the vehicle, giving it extra brake pressure if the system senses a driver is braking too lightly for the potential hazard. Smart Stop Technology automatically reduces engine power in a situation where the driver presses both the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time under certain conditions.
