Kick in the Tires Before a Long Road trip

Summer is the time of the year for vacations and road trips — but have you had your tires checked recently to make sure they can go the distance?

We at the NYE Automotive Group recommend you take a few moments for some prior preparation before heading out on a trip. Good tires not only make the ride safer and less likely to experience the setback of a blowout, but will also increase your mileage and save gas.

Make sure you always have the tires’ air pressure checked and set at the recommended amount, and don’t forget about the spare. Too many times, a hapless driver has gone to the trunk while stranded at the side of the road with a blowout only to find the spare is flat as well.

Examine the tires for any irregularities like bulges and cuts; these can easily lead to worse problems down the road, so to speak. Blowouts occur the most often during the hot summertime because the rubber in the tires is softened by the heat, so don’t compound the problem by not rectifying an easily noticed warning sign beforehand.

And since summer is also the time for road construction, always be aware of the road in front of you and possible hazards to the tires including ruts, potholes, nails, and uneven road surfaces. They not only pose a blowout potential, but can damage the tire’s rim if you hit them just right at the right speed.

At NYE Automotive, we want to make sure each and every one of your expeditions is a pleasant one. We encourage drivers to come in and have our professionals check over their tires, and the rest of their vacation chariots as well, before they head out on a trip. It’ll bring some peace of mind, and make the vacation all that much more fun when you don’t have to worry about a flat tire deflating your plans.
