Celebrate Fall Car Care Month at NYE Fall has once again returned to central New York, and the cold season is soon to follow. Now is a great time to start thinking about preparing your vehicle for the winter — and possibly heading off any problems that will only be bigger once the weather gets colder. The NYE Automotive Group encourages all drivers to bring their vehicles in for a fall check-up. Since October is the official “Fall Car Care Month,” it’s a great chance to take check out the all-too-often overlooked parts of your vehicle that will certainly turn into a major importance if something goes wrong. Don’t worry … your friendly NYE technician knows just where to look for those overlooked components. Take your battery. The connections should be tight and corrosion-free, and the battery should still be sound enough to make it through the winter. The cold is especially hard on the battery, so it’s best to have it checked along with the entire charging system in the fall. If the battery is more than three years old, it’s likely a good time for a new one. When the snow flies and the ice on the road starts to build up, the only thing between your vehicle and the road is your tires. We’ll check the treads to make sure they will still grab the slick surface of a winter road, as well as the pressure and any areas of damage that can lead to a blowout. We‘ll even set you up with a quality set of snow tires if needed. Your brakes should also be checked over, as they become even more important when driving on snowy or icy roads. We‘ll check the complete brake system, including all linings, drums, and rotors to make sure you will stop whenever you need to stop. The heater and defroster have probably been dormant for a while, so it wouldn’t hurt to have them checked out to make sure everything is running as it should. You will certainly miss that defroster the first day the windshield is coated with ice, and the heater the first time you drive in below zero degree weather without it. And we won’t forget the wiper blades, either. The summertime is rather forgiving on a worn set of blades, but winter snow and slush will really put them to the test. If they are torn and cracked they might have gotten you through the rain, but pushing the heavier white stuff will be more of a task. We’ll make sure they are up to keeping your windshield clear for maximum visibility, and we’ll even fill up the wiper fluid reservoir, too. If you are one of the people who makes sure to change the batteries in the smoke alarm every fall when you set your clock back, here’s another thing you can keep in mind as you revert to standard time. Stop by NYE Automotive today and we will make sure your vehicle is prepared for whatever the change in season brings. The NYE Automotive Group is located at 1479 Genesee St. in Oneida, N.Y. 13421.
